Since meeting in 1997, Lee & I have been planning to build
a traditional, Low-country plantation-style home in Summerfield, Florida (North Central Florida). We have traveled throughout
Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina looking for details for our home. We began designing the home
in mid-2002, and we began construction on August 1, 2003. We finally moved into our home on March 6, 2004.
Some of
the architectural details that we have incorporated after our many hours of research include the pier and beam construction,
the 10 foot front porch with traditional wide columns, the metal roof, haint-blue porch ceilings, and a 150 year old fireplace
mantel native to Marion County, Florida.
Since we have tried to keep the home as "historically accurate" as possible,
I have come to cringe at the term, since it usually means that my husband has a new idea that will cost more money!!
A
special thanks goes out to our builders, Jim & Maria Arvanitis of Demetri Homes, Inc.
Jim & Maria have been with us since the design stage and haven't run from us in frustration yet!! They have done a great
job in both constructing our home and in maintaining their patience with us!!
The name White Rose Plantation comes
from the combination of our two names: Angela DeRose and Lee White.
